An energy information system is only useful if the people who feed it and run it know how to use it. In 2026, as part of the Niger Energy Information System (SIE-Niger) built under the World Bank-funded HASKE project, in partnership with NIGELEC and the HASKE project management unit, we ran two training sessions in Niamey.
Session 1, 1-5 June 2026: the EIS team
Five days, 35 hours: staff of the Ministry of Energy worked on a platform they had never seen a few weeks earlier. Before the end of the week, they were submitting, correcting and validating data on their own. At the same time, the migration of the historical series from 2000 onwards continued.
Session 2, 13-16 July 2026: the data contributors
The second session focused on the organisations that feed the platform with energy sector statistics. Twenty contributors took part, representing in particular NIGELEC, SONIDEP, SONICHAR, SORAZ, SOMAIR and SNCC, as well as several national departments and institutions.
- A common day to get started: account creation, navigation, first steps;
- Sessions by sector profile, to enter and validate each organisation’s 2025 data.
The result was immediate: during the training week itself, the first 2025 data were entered, submitted and validated directly on the platform, with real-time progress tracking by contributor.
Why this matters
The real deliverable is not a report or a presentation. It is people who know how to do the work, and who keep producing reliable statistics after the project. This is why training and skills transfer are part of every energy information system we build.
We thank all participants for their commitment, and our partners at SIE-Niger and the HASKE project unit for their trust. Discover our online course or contact us to train your teams.
